To be a chaplain to the Sutton Hospital offering pastoral, spiritual and religious care to those of all religious traditions and none.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the emotional and spiritual needs of patients, their families and friends, and staff; arrange the appropriate response with available resources and provide ongoing support while a patient is receiving treatment in the organization.
  • Visit and offer pastoral care to patients, their families and friends, and staff in the wards and departments.
  • Minister to the seriously ill or dying when appropriate and provide sacraments (if licensed) when requested.
  • Pray with and/or for patients, their families and friends, and staff.
  • Conduct regular and occasional services of public worship in the chapels and elsewhere in the Trust as appropriate, according to the rites of your own church or denomination and/or ecumenically as required; publicise and arrange times of worship in consultation with the Lead Chaplain.
  • Conduct occasional baptisms and marriage blessings as required and at your discretion following discussion with the Lead Chaplain.
  • Liaise with leaders of faith communities regarding the pastoral care of their members who may also be our patients, while observing the rules of confidentiality binding every NHS employee.
  • Alongside medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals, take an active part in the multidisciplinary care of the hospital’s patients.
