The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a leading cancer centre that provides high‑quality, compassionate care to a local, regional, national and international population. The Band 3 Healthcare Assistant role is based at our Chelsea site and involves supporting outpatient clinics and contributing to a safe, efficient patient journey.
Responsibilities
- Support a wide range of outpatient clinics across different specialties.
- Monitor and record patient observations, including vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation) and report any abnormal results to registered nursing staff.
- Provide emotional support to patients undergoing investigations and treatment.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well‑stocked clinical environment.
- Undertake phlebotomy duties, including venepuncture and venous blood sampling, once competency is assessed and signed off.
- Support accurate documentation using electronic patient record systems.
- Practice the Care Certificate and support junior staff in achieving its standards.
- Monitor patient comfort and initiate emergency procedures where necessary.
- Measure and record patient height and weight.
- Perform delegated clinical tasks such as ECG, urinalysis, catheter removal, MRSA screening swabs, blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, removal of peripheral cannula and heightened observation for patients at risk of agitation or distress.
- Record allergies and other clinical details on the EPR after competency sign‑off.
Qualifications
- Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a hospital setting.
- Completion of the Care Certificate.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, reliable, and patient‑focused.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred, or willingness to undertake training.
