Responsibilities:

  • Ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care.
  • Perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.
  • Follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules, and departmental SOPs.
  • Comply with accurate patient identification procedures.
  • Ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner.
  • Provide advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations.
  • Maintain radiation safety when undertaking CT examinations and ensure safety and protection of patients, staff and carers.
  • Perform standard equipment Quality Assurance (QA), record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required.
  • Assess specific communication needs of individual patients and ascertain suitable consent for intravenous contrast media.
  • Anticipate communication difficulties that might prevent completion of the CT checklist and implement alternatives to ensure patient safety.
  • Administer intravenous contrast via a pressure injector.

Desirable Skills:

  • Some core skills in cross‑sectional imaging (training available).
  • Previous cannulation experience (training available).

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated radiographer with strong communication skills, keen to contribute positively to the imaging service at Cavendish Square. They must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and a keen interest in the future of diagnostic imaging services, supporting the service and staff in maintaining and developing the highest standards of imaging.

Working Hours & Location:

The post will operate 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Friday (Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm when operational). The post holder will be required to rotate between MRI and CT, and perform occasional X‑ray studies where needed. Flexibility to work at other locations (RMH Cavendish Square, Chelsea and Sutton sites) is expected. Participation in on‑call provision is not required.
