Role Overview
The information team currently supports management and clinicians throughout the organisation by providing information and analysis for planning, decision making, quality assurance and improvement. We are further developing analytical tools and capabilities to rapidly increase the utilisation of anonymised clinical data to support research and improve understanding of disease and treatment outcomes. We are looking for a motivated data engineer to join our team to play a pivotal role supporting the Information Development Manager in shaping, developing and maintaining the Trust's new data ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the corporate data warehouse and Trusted Research Environment; monitor databases, resolve performance issues, test system upgrades and patches.
- Pro‑actively optimise environment performance in collaboration with the cloud hosting provider, exploring and recommending cost‑reduction opportunities.
- Develop complex data structures, data models and ETL processes to support the Trust data warehouse under the direction of the Database Architect.
- Develop, implement, and assist in the maintenance of a data asset catalogue to facilitate data discovery.
- Work with information analysts, performance managers and data quality managers to develop data models that enable self‑service analytics in a controlled and governed way.
- Build, manage, monitor and develop the corporate data warehouse environment.
- Ensure data warehouse integrity, design and build adequate backup solutions.
- Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Maintain an in‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure and SQL Server, and act as a point of escalation for complex technical issues.
- Review requirements and specifications for implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance of new data models.
- Monitor service component capacity and resource costs, initiating actions to resolve shortfalls according to agreed procedures.
Qualifications
- Degree‑level education.
- Experience and expertise in developing and maintaining Microsoft‑based SQL data warehouses.
- Ability to produce technical documentation supporting a wide range of users.
- Self‑motivated with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels, both within and outside the organisation.
