Buckingham Palace is currently in its final stage of a ten-year programme of works to overhaul the palace’s infrastructure. Our in-house Programme Management Office (PMO) oversees the delivery and success of this large scale, complex project.
As Programme Officer you’ll provide high‑level support and assistance to the Programme Director and be responsible for helping to maintain the direction and momentum of the programme in its final year.
Key Responsibilities- You’ll support the Programme Director in the planning, shaping and influencing of the PMO strategy, working with key stakeholders to drive the programme and provide support to the PMO Directors.
- You’ll be the first line for responding to queries relating to the programme.
- You’ll identify, investigate and resolve challenges that arise, using your initiative to find creative solutions and keep the programme on track.
- You’ll work closely with colleagues in commercial and construction teams.
- With an oversight perspective of the programme, you’ll positively challenge and help refine activities to drive through coherence, efficiencies and operational improvements.
- You’ll help prepare briefing notes and reports for submission to monthly board meetings, as well as act as secretary to key governance boards, and provide office management support.
- You will support on the delivery of key Programme governance requirements including external reviews, as well as monitoring business continuity plans.

Qualifications- Experience within a similar role, ideally within the property or construction industry will be an advantage.
- Experience supporting multiple projects as part of a large‑scale programme, with a focus on governance and deadlines, will also be useful.
- Your organisation skills will be vital, enabling you to effectively plan, prioritise and deliver multiple strands of works with varying timescales in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proactive and resourceful, and a logical problem solver, you'll be quick to assess issues, and apply good judgement in response.
- You’ll be comfortable acting independently, as well as being able to flex and adapt to changing circumstances.
- A confident and diplomatic communicator, you're adept at managing and building stakeholder relationships and have demonstrated ability to exert influence at a senior level.
- With excellent written communication skills, you’ll be confident at drafting and copy‑editing reports and updates for different audiences, including board level and stakeholders.
- You also have a critical eye and analytical approach, enabling you to track progress and identify and tackle obstacles to achieve longer‑term goals.
