About the role

As the Senior Curator, you will manage all curatorial functions relating to the Collection. You’ll maintain, preserve and develop this priceless Collection to ensure that it is fully documented, interpreted and preserved at highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and catalogue the collection to recognised professional standards and maintain accurate records and systematic inventory checks using the Collections Management System.
  • Applying specialist expertise and identify strategic priorities for the conservation, long-term preservation and digitisation of the collection whilst overseeing its storage, security and accessibility.
  • Undertake research and provide authoritative interpretation to answer specialist enquiries and to inform displays.
  • Liaising with internal and external colleagues whilst overseeing displays and loans.
  • Lead and develop a small team of professionals to support cataloguing, conservation, digitisation, displays and enquiries.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with philatelic experts and organisations in the UK and internationally.

About you

With strong experience as a philatelist, you bring well developed research and curatorial expertise, ideally gained within a professional or heritage setting. You have hands‑on experience of researching and cataloguing philatelic collections, with a careful and consistent approach to maintaining high quality records using a collections management system. You bring a good understanding of the care, conservation and digitisation of philatelic collections, and the practical challenges of working with them. You have experience of managing projects and supporting or leading others, delivering work to a high standard while balancing multiple priorities. You’re a confident and practical problem solver, using sound judgement to find solutions when faced with challenges. Well organised and adaptable, you can manage a varied workload while maintaining attention to detail. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you build positive working relationships and contribute confidently to discussions, interpretation and presentations. A strong team player, you enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to achieve shared goals.
