Based at the Royal Mews, Windsor Castle, in this role you'll join our Fire team to provide a 24/7 fire surveillance service and support all aspects of fire safety across the entire Windsor estate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and respond to automatic fire detection systems.
  • Carry out ad-hoc patrols and act as first-response in the event of a fire or other emergency across all parts of the Windsor estate.
  • Work in the Control Room to monitor fire detection systems, liaising closely with the Police Control Room.
  • Manage hot works permits and carry out fire safety 'point of presence' inspections, call point testing, fire panels, and inspections of firefighting equipment.
  • Maintain logs of activity online and in daily logs.
  • Support daily operations by issuing keys, escorting, and giving access to fire system contractors.
  • In the event of a fire, monitor smoke levels and make decisions regarding safe evacuation, carry out dynamic risk assessments, and act as 'pathfinders' for the fire service.
  • Liaise closely with Fire Alarm Engineers on testing and maintenance of systems.
  • Provide first aid support to the Castle and Home Park and elsewhere as required.
  • Attend some events to ensure a Fire Service presence.
  • Monitor the Royal Household switchboard during night shifts, support the Property section with events, and help train the wider organisation on the importance of fire safety.

You will work a 12-hour shift pattern of two days and two nights with four days off.

Essential Criteria:
  • Experience in the emergency services, preferably the fire service, is an advantage.
  • Pro-active attitude and team-focused approach are essential.
  • Standard IT skills are a must, including the ability to input data into spreadsheets.
  • Good level of physical fitness, confident in carrying out inspections, working at height and in confined spaces.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work closely with a wide range of people including employees, residents, visitors, and guests.
  • Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence as some driving will be required between sites.
  • Ability to work with initiative, a responsive attitude, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Effective working alone as well as part of a team.
