Job Purpose Summary: To lead on the preparation, development and analysis of financial information for the group so that managers can make well-informed plans and decisions. You will maintain financial policies and management information systems, as well as provide a high-quality support service by business partnering with colleagues on finance matters. The Finance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the financial governance of the company. This will include supporting the finance executive in their daily duties, including review of journals, accruals, bank recs, VAT etc as well as checking and authorising banking payments and payroll. A key duty of this role will be to compile the month end data for the four companies and produce management accounts to be reviewed by the Director of Finance & IT. This position will also lead the year-end audit process ensuring timely delivery of the final audit report and completed financial statements as well as liaising with external tax advisors.

Key Duties

  • Financial Management and Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, reconciliations and intercompany transactions, variance analysis. Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts pack for senior leadership and the Board. Preparing and completing the financial year end (31 Dec). Lead the year end process – including collating information for review, preparation of audit file, reconciliation and preparation of financial statements, financial accounting policy recommendations, liaison with auditors. Act as main point of contact with external auditors. Ensure compliance with UK statutory reporting, VAT, PAYE, and other regulatory requirements. In conjunction with tax advisors, assist the Director of Finance & IT in preparation of work required for annual corporate tax computations, tax returns and tax planning. Review and authorise payments and liaise with the Treasury department (City of Edinburgh Council) as required.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting and Cashflow: Aid in the preparation of detailed budgets and forecasts in conjunction with budget holders. Develop rolling cashflow forecasts aligned to the events pipeline and seasonality of the business. Identify financial risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Event and Project Financial Control: Maintain financial tracking for events and projects, including budgets, cost control, and post-event profitability analysis. Support review of pricing structures, margins, and break-even points for projects. Provide financial input into bids, proposals, and client contracts.
  • Systems, Controls and Process Improvement: Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls. Ensure consistent and accurate financial data across projects and departments. Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiencies and support implementation or upgrade of systems if required.
  • Team and Stakeholder Management: Build strong working relationships across the business. Manage and develop the Finance Executive. Support in ensuring that financial systems/processing are accurate and regularly reconciled, income is received timeously and costs are paid in line with expectations. Assist with journals and unresolved items and review of completed bank reconciliations. Provide guidance in preparing VAT Returns, payroll processing, and other areas of finance work. Manage budgets held by the Director of Finance & IT and the Finance department. Other duties as reasonably requested by the Director of Finance & IT. Provide assistance to the Director of Finance & IT in other areas of financial accountability including but not restricted to music publishing, management of budgets, insurance, fixed asset registers, data compilation and analysis.

Qualifications and Experience: Accounting qualification (CA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent). Proven experience in Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role. Experience of preparing management accounts and budgets. Delivery of management accounts preparation and engagement with colleagues. Experience working with accounting software packages, ideally SAGE. Working knowledge of Charity SORP. Experience of tax, including creative industry reliefs. Knowledge of event cost modelling and multi-project financial reporting. Corporate Tax, Payroll and VAT experience.

Personal Attributes: Strong financial and management accounting skills in a small to medium sized business and/or charitable companies. Experience of cashflow management in a project‑based or seasonal business. Commercial mindset and attentive to detail. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Proactive, collaborative, and solutions‑focused approach. Motivated by continuous improvement, and a desire to learn and progress.
