Operating Theatre Manager (senior scrub nurse)

The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, part of the Akessa Health Care Group, is looking for an experienced, dynamic and organised theatre manager with a proven background to join our team. About us: Akessa Healthcare Group owns and operates several boutique independent hospitals including The New Foscote Hospital, Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital and 107 Harley Street. The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital was established in Aylesbury in 1832 and has provided services and treatments to thousands of people from across the region. The New Foscote Hospital has been successfully established in Banbury for over 40 years and has provided services and treatments to thousands of people from across the region. We have over 75 consultants, all of whom are leaders in their specialist fields and choose to hold their private practice here, working alongside our friendly, highly qualified and experienced nursing staff and support teams. 107 Harley Street is an outpatient, diagnostic and day-case facility. The Group has had a presence in the Harley Street area since 2010. The treatments offered at this facility include oral and maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, orthodontics and specialist dentistry, plastic and cosmetic surgery, general surgery and rheumatology. The clinical outcomes of the hospital group are of the highest standards and the latest CQC report rated our hospital standards as ‘good’ across all parameters.

The role: In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high standards of clinical patient care within the operating theatre department. This includes the recovery area and the repatriation of patients back to ward-based areas.

Core Responsibilities:

• A ‘hands-on’ role, leading by example.
• Provide administrative, organisational and managerial leadership.
• Work with the Theatre Director and Deputy Theatre Manager in the delivery, standards and management of patient care within the theatre suite.
• Recognise Consultant Surgeon’s key role and support them with their clinical and administrative assistance as required.
• Maximise theatre utilisation across both theatres 6 days per week.
• Ensure effective use of resources.
• Harness the use of new technologies where appropriate.
• Monitor and assist in the continued audit of patient outcomes.
• Encourage, develop and enhance the skills, knowledge and clinical competencies of all theatre staff and of self.
• Promote best evidence-based practice.
• Apply and ensure others comply with legislation, policies and procedures.
• Respect the patient’s dignity, privacy, wishes and beliefs.
• Lead the multi-disciplinary team, providing high quality pre and post-operative patient-centred care and customer service.
• Provide guidance, support and clinical scrub expertise and leadership to the Theatre team.
• Ensure that theatres are prepared for use on a daily basis in line with quality standards.
• Comply with internal procedures to ensure equipment is maintained/serviced in line with manufacturer’s instructions, reporting any defects.
• Ensure that all required documentation (legal, quality or other) is accurately maintained.
• In accordance with policies and procedures, ensure that medicines administration and management is carried out appropriately.
• Coordinate and maintain adequate stock levels of drugs, stores and implants liaising with the Theatre Manager and Procurement.
• Maintain effective communication across the hospital, including with patients, team members and consultants.

Who we are looking for:

Essential:

• Registered with the NMC or HCPC.
• Strong clinical background as a Senior Scrub Practitioner in all types of surgery including but not limited to; general, orthopaedic, ENT, ophthalmic, cosmetic/plastic.
• Ability to demonstrate high standards of verbal and written communication.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to work flexibly, take accountability and respond to urgent matters in a calm, well-measured and informed manner.
• Basic IT skills.
• Ability to present information accurately, clearly and concisely.

Desirable:

• Surgical First Assistant trained/qualified.
