The Akessa Healthcare Group are a prominent group of UK medical facilities, including the Royal Buckinghamshire and New Foscote Hospitals. Fresh websites have recently been launched for both, with reasonable content but in need of further development to succeed in search and reach more patients. The group also owns the Harley Street Maxillofacial Clinic, where the website has a solid base but requires moving to a new platform. Other medical websites are expected in the future.
We are seeking a Digital Strategy & Web Lead to take ownership of our digital presence across multiple websites. This role reports directly to the Group Director of IT and will lead weekly digital strategy meetings, driving forward our online visibility and patient engagement.
You will manage our existing WordPress websites, create new patient-focused content, and lead efforts to improve our search performance across Google, other search engines, and emerging AI platforms (such as ChatGPT and Perplexity). You will directly manage our external developers and agency partners while also learning the basics yourself to reduce reliance on outside support.
The role requires close collaboration with the Marketing Department, ensuring that content, campaigns, and digital strategy are aligned. You will also take responsibility for setting clear KPIs, tracking performance, and reporting results. This includes maintaining and developing our internal enquiries tracker and producing regular reports and dashboards to show outcomes and inform decisions.
This is a leadership role requiring a mix of digital strategy, SEO expertise, content creation, reporting, and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the development and optimisation of WordPress websites, ensuring they grow into trusted patient resources.
- Work closely with the Marketing Department to align digital strategy with campaigns and brand goals.
- Take charge of weekly digital strategy meetings, setting priorities and tracking delivery.
- Define, monitor, and report on KPIs for digital performance (traffic, enquiries, conversions).
- Maintain and improve business intelligence reporting, including the internal enquiries tracker.
- Create high-quality, engaging content (consultant profiles, service information, news), including research, copywriting, and sourcing images.
- Optimise for SEO, page speed, and visibility across both search engines and AI-driven platforms.
- Manage external developers and agencies, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard.
- Guide hospital departments on best practice for online content and digital communication.
- Proven experience in digital strategy, SEO, and content management.
- Strong command of English, with the ability to write engaging, accurate, and search-friendly content.
- Solid knowledge of WordPress (editing, structure, configuration).
- Experience defining or tracking KPIs and reporting digital performance (e.g. Google Analytics, dashboards, or BI tools).
- Ability to manage external developers and agencies effectively.
- Self-driven, strategic thinker who can work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
- Awareness of emerging search and AI platforms and how they shape patient behaviour.
- Basic familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL/MySQL, JavaScript), helpful, but not essential.
- Experience in healthcare or regulated industries.
You will be confident leading strategy discussions and making recommendations that directly impact the business. You will combine strategic thinking with hands-on ability, ensuring our websites and digital presence continuously improve. Above all, you will have a genuine interest in healthcare and in helping patients find the information they need.
