We have a great opportunity for some Weekend Library Advisors to join us!

These are permanent, part-time weekend roles of 3.75 - 10 hours per week based at Maidenhead Library with a requirement to work across all RBWM libraries as required.

About us

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country.

The library service takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality library services to the community.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Weekend Library Advisor to join our Library and Resident Contact (Face to Face) team.

The Role

Reporting to the Library and Resident Services Supervisor, you will play a key role in delivering library services across RBWM libraries.

As part of the wider Library and Resident Services team, you will support residents, library members and visitors by delivering excellent customer service, promoting digital inclusion, and helping people access library, council and community services.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to residents and communities across the Borough.

Your role will involve

  • Delivering excellent customer service to library customers.
  • Dealing with enquiries, including council customer service enquiries, community signposting and support services.
  • Working with partners and community organisations.
  • Facilitating the use of library spaces by other organisations to deliver support services whilst generating income.
  • Assisting customers with digital support and helping them access online services and resources.
  • What we are looking for
  • Someone who loves helping people and providing excellent customer service.
  • A love of books, reading and lifelong learning.
  • An understanding of the value of public library services to communities and individuals.
  • Excellent digital skills and the ability to support customers in using a variety of digital devices and online services.
  • The ability to work at any library location within the Borough as required.

The role includes physical tasks such as moving stock, carrying boxes of books, pushing loaded book trolleys and spending extended periods on your feet throughout the working day.

Reasonable adjustments will be considered where appropriate.

What we offer

  • Annual leave entitlement equivalent to 32 days per year (pro rata for part-time hours), plus bank holidays, and the option to purchase additional leave.
  • Generous Local Government Pension Scheme including life cover (three times annual salary) and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
  • Free employee parking close to the libraries.
  • Give As You Earn scheme.
  • Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
  • Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
  • Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.

Due to the nature of this front-line role, attendance at library locations is required.

RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of its operations.

As an equal opportunities’ employer, we encourage applications from all as we believe diverse talent makes us stronger.

If you have a disability, are a current or former member of the armed forces or have been part of any formal care system up to the age of 25, you will be guaranteed an interview, should you meet the minimum requirements for the role.
