The Role:

As a Facilities Operative, you’ll help make sure the Town Hall and our civic buildings are safe, welcoming and ready for the wide range of activity that takes place in them. You’ll play a hands-on role supporting day-to-day operations, helping set up rooms and events, carrying out basic building checks, supporting colleagues and being a friendly, reliable presence for staff, councillors, partners and visitors. You’ll be part of a supportive facilities team and will work within a rota that includes early and late shifts, ensuring the buildings are opened, supported throughout the day, and secured safely at the end. This is a role for someone dependable, team-focused and happy to get stuck in.

Your role will involve:

  • Helping to open, close and secure the building as part of a rota
  • Setting up rooms, furniture and equipment for meetings, events and civic functions
  • Supporting day-to-day building operations and general facilities duties
  • Carrying out routine checks and reporting any issues to senior colleagues
  • Helping to keep public areas tidy, well-presented and safe for users
  • Providing a friendly point of contact for building users and visitors
  • Assisting colleagues across the wider Facilities team when needed

What we are looking for:

  • Someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and being on their feet
  • A reliable, positive team player with a helpful approach
  • Someone who can work calmly, even when things get busy or plans change
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to support colleagues, contractors and the public
  • Previous facilities, caretaking or building support experience would be helpful, but a great attitude and willingness to learn are just as important

What we offer:

  • 32 days annual leave
  • Generous Local Government Pension scheme includes life cover (3 times of annual salary); and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
  • Free employee parking close to the offices.
  • Give As You Earn scheme.
  • Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
  • Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
  • Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.
