As a Sheltered Housing Officer, you’ll be a trusted presence in our housing schemes, supporting residents to live independently, feel safe and stay connected to their community. It’s a role where care, confidence and communication really matter.
You’ll be based in the Borough for 5 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.
As the friendly, familiar face that residents know and trust, you’ll help older or vulnerable residents feel safe, supported and part of the community while ensuring the building is well‑maintained and secure. You’ll carry out regular checks of the communal areas, help residents report any issues, support them in settling in and navigating services. You’ll signpost help, solve everyday challenges or support tenancy issues, using your initiative to respond with care, professionalism and calm. You’ll work closely with carers, contractors and council teams, and you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the scheme is clean, secure and welcoming. Often working alone, you’ll need to be confident in using your judgement and know when to escalate things. You’ll manage access to the building, keep accurate records, and monitor performance against housing‑management standards.
You’ll have a calm and diplomatic approach to problem‑solving, with confidence to manage situations independently. Experience working in a customer‑focused environment is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people. You’ll need to be organised, reliable and comfortable juggling different tasks, and confident using computer systems and maintaining accurate digital records. Most importantly, you’ll have a warm, approachable personality, sensitivity and resilience to support residents from a range of backgrounds. We’re looking for someone who shares our values, understands the importance of equality and inclusion, and wants to make a positive difference every day. This role requires an Enhanced DBS with adults barred list.
