Responsible to: Bursar via Head of P.E.

Role: To supervise the use of the gym and support the P.E. Department across a range of sports.

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement the ‘RBAI Physical Pathway’, from Year 9-14, to maximise students’ physical performance in a sporting contest.
  • Responsibility for developing the core aspects of fitness within R.B.A.I. players in a range of sports, notably strength, power, speed, agility, aerobic and anaerobic fitness.
  • Design and monitor weekly gym sessions for Competition Sports’ Squads in association with Masters in Charge of Hockey, Rowing, Rugby and Cricket to ensure periodisation of training to produce maximal performance.
  • Development of training programmes for pupils who are assigned for training in the fitness suite.
  • Ensure the Fitness Suite is a safe environment for pupils to utilise and that pupils using the Fitness Suite facilities are performing exercises in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Implementation of weight training ‘clinics’ to introduce younger year groups to weight training within a safe and controlled environment.
  • Development of junior athletes on the “Talented Athlete” programme.
  • Offer nutritional advice and guidance to pupils, particularly in the areas of sports performance and understanding the implications of sport supplement use.
  • Design return to play programmes for a wide range of injuries to pupils upon consultation with the School Physiotherapist.
  • Support with P.E. staff to include examination classes, incorporating areas of training and advice on weightlifting and circuit training and any other duties as can be reasonably expected.
  • Offer advice and consult with appropriate School coaches in the areas of fitness, nutrition and strength work during INSET.
  • Assist match preparation for the Schools’ Cup, McCullough Cup and Burney Cup as required.
