We are looking to recruit a Public Events Manager to join our team based at our Midlands site. You will join us on a full‑time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a salary of £30,000 per annum.

The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non‑departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Purpose of the Public Events Manager role:

We are pleased to announce a fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic Events Team. We are looking for an experienced programmer and event professional to deliver exciting and popular events at our Midlands Site. Working in a small and friendly team, the role will involve managing a busy year of dynamic events aimed at our family audience. You will also use your creativity to grow and develop the programme in future years.

As a Public Events Manager, you will have a variety of roles which will include:

  • To work with Head of Events and Catering to develop our Public Events strategy, that articulates the long‑term objectives of the programme across all Museum sites and audience groups.
  • To lead the development of the annual public events plan for Midlands, providing a schedule for each event that comprises the programme and outlines our key commercial and visitor experience goals for each event.
  • To lead the implementation of the public events programme at Midlands, including taking responsibility for the management of major public events and the delegation of selected elements of the programme to the Public Events Executive, where appropriate.
  • Take lead responsibility for the management and development of 1 FTE, including all aspects of objective and appraisal setting and the development of all training and development objectives.
  • Take lead responsibility for the management of the Public Events Volunteers, working with our Volunteering team to develop the team.
  • To work closely with the Operations and Visitor Experience team to deliver events, including staff briefings for events and training to deliver activities.

Candidates must have experience in delivering large scale public facing events as they will be responsible for events such as the Midlands Food Festival, Themed Weeks and Summer Events Programme. The ideal candidate will be creative, highly organised, flexible, pro‑active and have lots of initiative and energy. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high standard of both verbal and written English are essential requirements as is a high level of client service and event health and safety experience. Strong proficiency in budget management is also required.

The post holder will be required to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and occasionally overnight as necessary. The post will be based at our Midlands location (in Cosford, Shropshire). Travel between the Museum’s sites will be required from time to time.
