A genuinely rewarding opportunity to support a young person at an exciting stage of life. We are recruiting a friendly, reliable, and positive Buddy / Support Worker to work with an outgoing and fun loving 18‑year‑old young man with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
The focus of this role is companionship, confidence‑building, and practical support. You will work alongside the young man to support him with his personal care needs, daily routines, and to access the local community, social activities, and interests that matter to him.
Support may include:
- Assisting with personal care in a respectful and dignified manner
- Accompanying him on community outings and social activities (concerts, football matches, nights out with friends, sporting events, festivals)
- Providing reassurance, encouragement, and positive companionship
- Supporting independence while ensuring safety and wellbeing
- Driving his Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) when accessing the community
- Accompanying him on holidays and weekends away in the UK and abroad.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Calm, patient, and personable
- Reliable and committed to building a consistent, trusting relationship
- Comfortable supporting personal care needs
- Confident supporting a young adult with physical disabilities
- A confident driver with a full, clean UK driving licence (essential). Must also be a competent motorway driver and be willing to drive to destinations which may be 3 hrs away.
- Interested in football and sports
- Fun and outgoing with a sense of humour
- Energetic and spontaneous
- Interested in gaming
Experience in care, support work, or working with young people with disabilities is desirable, but the right attitude and values are most important. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
