Health & Welfare Support Worker / Personal Assistant
Location: Walmley, Sutton Coldfield
Pay: £12.71 per hour
Hours: Up to 40+ hours are available on a rota basis, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, and reliable Health & Welfare Support Worker / Personal Assistant to join a small team supporting two brothers, aged 57 and 67, with severe learning and physical disabilities and complex health needs, in their own home.
This is a varied and rewarding role supporting them to live as independently as possible, maintain relationships, access the community, and achieve their goals and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal care including washing, showering, dressing and toileting.
- Cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry, and general household support.
- Supporting health needs, medication, and medical appointments.
- Supporting exercise, wellbeing, and daily activities.
- Transporting and supporting the gentleman with regular community outings.
- Supporting hobbies, social activities, short breaks, and holidays.
- Supporting use of technology and everyday household issues.
- Maintaining accurate records and following support plans and procedures.
- Advocating for the individuals and promoting their choices, dignity, and independence.
- Helping coordinate the small PA team, including rotas and holiday/sickness cover.
- Supporting and guiding other team members and helping new PAs understand routines and support needs.
- Working closely with family and the appointed representative.
- The ability to positively encourage and motivate the individuals to maintain their health, wellbeing and daily routines, including completing physiotherapy exercises, maintaining good nutrition and hydration, following personal hygiene routines and wearing clean, appropriate clothing.
About You
We are looking for someone who is caring, calm, patient, organised, positive and self-motivated, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
You should be able to work independently and as part of a team, use initiative, remain calm in challenging situations, and provide positive leadership to colleagues.
Essential: relevant care/support experience; willingness to provide personal care; full clean driving licence and have your own car (car must be able to store a fold up wheelchair in the boot); to transport & support us to appointments, activities, and other locations flexibility to work evenings/weekends; good communication skills; and willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check. We have no ability to manage our health care needs and therefore it is essential all aspects of our health care needs, daily living needs are looked after by you.
This is a smoke-free home and smoking is not permitted within the home or during working hours.
Previous experience supporting people with learning disabilities and complex health needs is desirable, but relevant experience, attitude and personal qualities will also be considered.
