Job Purpose
I am looking for a bank/contingency support worker to support me once a month to cover my support workers when they are on annual leave or sick. This will be for a minimum of one day per month.
I am a forty nine year old woman with Bethlem Myopathy (a rare type of Muscular Dystrophy which causes progressive muscle weakness), this has led to me using NIV and a powered wheelchair.
I enjoy going out walking my assistance dog, concerts, shopping, cinema, I also like playing games and binge-watching TV series.
I have a great team of staff that help me at various times of the day.
Main duties
Driving my automatic wheelchair accessible vehicle and securing me and my dog in the car.
Monitoring my breathing while we go out and fix any issues that can arise with my Non-invasive ventilator (NIV)
Support with personal care
Manual handling with another care worker, includes using a slide sheet and hoist for personal care.
Household chores such as washing up, laundry, vacuuming/ mopping, cooking, occasionally light gardening (weeding/planting pots).
Perform any duties that are of a reasonable request
Person Specification:
Be a dog lover as I am in the process of getting an assistance dog.
To be honest, friendly and have a sense of humour as these are very important to me
Good communication and listening skills
Be able to work solo and as a team
Training will be given in all aspects of my care.
Special Conditions:
A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) and two satisfactory references are conditional for the post. This is a free and confidential process.
