A part-time (18 hrs) Receptionist/Administrator is required for a surgery with approximately 4600 patients in Harold Hill, Romford. Applicants need to be flexible and ideally have a minimum of 1 year receptionist/admin experience in an NHS GP environment, although training will be provided for the right candidate. Experience in using EMIS-Web would be an advantage.
We are a friendly small practice in a purpose-built building with excellent support structures and training. We are close to the A12/M25, have onsite parking facilities, and are near a large gym and shops.
Main duties of the job:
- Booking and cancelling patient appointments
- Ensuring an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
- Answering calls and dealing with enquiries and tasks on the IT system
- Documenting, scanning, issuing repeat prescriptions, and actioning emails
- Dealing with all general enquiries, explaining procedures, and making new and follow-up appointments

We are a small practice looking for someone who is committed to working in the healthcare setting. We offer a great work-life balance and welcome new employees into the team. We operate out of a multidisciplinary team building and have regular meetings. We are very organised and supportive, and we encourage ongoing training and career development in the NHS. Our team consists of 2 full-time equivalent doctors, 1 nurse, and a small team of admin/reception staff. New staff members are expected to work in both reception and admin as needed by the practice. We provide a stable work environment that is clean and modern.
Opening times: 8am-6.30pm, we do not open on weekends or offer extended hours.
Job responsibilities:
- Answering and making calls
- Documenting in EMIS WEB
- Dealing with all general enquiries, explaining procedures, and making new and follow-up appointments
- Checking and responding to the practice email inbox
- Actioning tasks in EMIS WEB
- Actioning repeat prescription requests (mostly electronic)
- Scanning documents / transferring documents from email into EMIS WEB
- Actioning recall lists under the direction of the practice manager
- Actioning any other tasks under the direction of the practice manager or partners
Qualifications:
- GCSE grade C minimum in English and Maths
Experience:
- Able to converse in English and remain calm under pressure
- Able to work as part of a larger team
- Experience of working in a GP practice (EMIS WEB experience preferable)
