We are looking to recruit a full-time (35 hours) or two part-time Receptionist/Administrators to join our supportive team. The successful candidate must have previous experience working in a GP surgery, be confident using EMIS Web, and be IT literate. In this key front-line role, you will act as the first point of contact for patients, helping to provide a welcoming environment while ensuring efficient day-to-day administration, smooth running of reception services, and high-quality patient care within a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job:

  • Greet and assist patients and visitors in a professional manner
  • Book, cancel, and manage patient appointments
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to enquiries
  • Maintain and update patient records accurately
  • Process repeat prescription requests
  • Provide administrative support to clinical staff
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Ensure patient confidentiality at all times
  • Manage general reception duties and keep the area organised

About us:

We are a friendly, highly computerised GP practice of around 4,500 patients based in Harold Hill, operating from a modern purpose-built building with on-site parking and excellent transport links close to the A12 and M25.

Job responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and telephone enquiries
  • Book, amend, and manage patient appointments using EMIS Web
  • Handle incoming calls, emails, and practice correspondence professionally
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
  • Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures
  • Provide administrative support to doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff
  • Ensure all patient information is handled confidentially
  • Carry out general reception and administrative duties to support daily practice operations
  • Work efficiently within a busy, fast-paced GP environment

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Previous GP administrative experience at least 12 months, including scanning, emails, prescriptions, referrals, summarizing and patient registration/deduction
  • Minimum 12 months experience as a GP receptionist

Qualifications:

  • Minimum educational requirement, GCSE English C and maths C.
  • Strong IT and telephone skills
