Overview

Job title: Cleanliness Technician at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Fixed-term opportunity with 19.5 hours per week, working twilight shifts. Occasional weekend work may be required. This role is physically demanding and involves cleaning across various areas of the hospital.

Band 2 • Salary: £24,465 per year (pro rata) • Contract: Fixed term • Duration: 12 months • Working pattern: Part-time

Location: The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen Road, Oswestry, SY10 7AG

Responsibilities

  • Organise day-to-day activities to ensure cleanliness of assigned areas under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager or Supervisor. Areas include corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, theatres and bedrooms. Tasks include damp dusting, high/low cleaning, replenishment of disposables, waste bin emptying and periodic deep cleans.
  • Follow NHS and Trust policies and cleanliness standards and the required work frequencies.
  • Ensure safe chemical handling, storage and usage in line with COSHH regulations and training.
  • Adhere to Infection Control practices with colour-coded equipment to prevent infection spread.
  • Monitor environmental conditions, report defects via the Trust Estates reporting mechanism, and maintain equipment condition records.
  • Respond to actions from cleaning monitoring audits and surface swabbing audits.
  • Follow outlet flushing regime to minimise Legionella in water systems per technical guidance.
  • Report incidents, accidents and near misses via Datix; follow health and safety training and safe systems of work.
  • Protect patient privacy and dignity; comply with Lone Working procedures.
  • Manage stock security and weekly stock control and re-orders; conduct surveys and assist with new equipment testing.
  • Ensure areas are secured after work (windows/doors closed, alarms set, lights off); cooperate with new cleaning methods and frequencies.
  • Demonstrate tasks to new employees through shadowing; liaise with the service via the trust paging system.
  • Physical duties: operate cleaning equipment, move furniture, and safely handle linen and waste; maintain safe usage of chemicals and hazard signage.

Physical Skills

  • Physically handle cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, trolleys, mops, etc.) and move items as required.
  • Follow safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications/Training — Essential: NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification/experience. Desirable: Load Handling, Health & Safety, COSHH.
  • Experience — Essential: Cleaning skills/knowledge. Desirable: Previous domestic/hospital/healthcare cleaning experience.
  • Skills and Competencies — Essential: Adaptable to change; good communication; ability to follow written instructions and records; capable of undertaking physical tasks. Desirable: Working knowledge of cleaning equipment; ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge — Essential: Numerate and literate; effective communication; good interpersonal skills. Desirable: COSHH regulations familiarity.
