The Shipboard Human Resource Manager is responsible for the implementation and execution of all yacht Human Resource (HR) processes and policies including employee relations, training and development, performance management, and the overall wellness of the Ladies and Gentlemen. This role leads and manages the yacht’s overall Human Resource Division, providing assistance and support to onboard management when dealing with HR issues and is a member of the yacht’s Guidance Team. The Shipboard Human Resources Manager is expected to consult with the Senior Director, Shipboard Human Resources on matters for which they feel further direction and guidance is required and needed.

Essential Duties- Serves as a guardian of The Ritz-Carlton Gold Standards and is a positive role model. As a guardian, the Shipboard Human Resources Manager prioritises the culture, drives appreciation, energises personal service, enlivens empowerment, cultivates quality, leads with compassion and accountability, inspires innovation and celebrates successes.
- Operates as a strategic partner for providing leadership in the area of Human Resources, which includes employee relations, training and development, performance management, discipline and the overall wellness of the Ladies and Gentlemen. Partners with the Guidance Team onboard to ensure the onboard culture remains at the forefront of all business priorities.
- Works closely with and provides guidance to department heads and managers on HR issues, policies and procedures.
- Implements HR practices, policies and procedures established through Corporate to ensure onboard departments can and will comply with requirements, as well as ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
- Ensures the ILO (Time and Attendance) policies and procedures are followed by all Ladies and Gentlemen to ensure 100% compliance and ensures confidentiality and discretion of all employee information.
- Participates in all investigations related to employee relations and policy violations.
- Oversees all planning and development of training and development programs to enhance the quality of service of Ladies and Gentlemen as well as to ensure compliance with Corporate policies. With fellow Guidance Team leaders, facilitates strategic training sessions covering specified areas such as brand immersion, diversity, harassment, ethics, leadership, managerial training and promotional development.
- In partnership with fellow Guidance Team leaders, executes the company’s onboarding program for all new Ladies and Gentlemen.
- Responsible for leadership development strategy such as coaching, performance reviews and training approaches.
- Upholds the career progression process that encompasses experience, skill and the brand philosophy.
- In partnership with the Guidance Team and Department Heads, communicates organisational change initiatives, new company policies and procedures that affect the Ladies and Gentlemen.
- Coordinates and is actively involved in fostering a diverse work environment and enhancing the quality of life for Ladies and Gentlemen. This includes maintaining the employee cabins, employee public areas, planning, organising and hosting social, wellness and learning programs and events, and managing the employee shop.
- Model and hold others accountable for promoting the Gold Standards, respect and fair treatment.
- Ensures the Daily execution of Line-up in accordance with company standards and Brand Guidelines.
- Sets the department’s expectations for desired behaviour, knowledge and skill levels.
- Coaches others by providing constructive feedback; helps others identify developmental needs and monitors progress; promoting an environment where everyone is valued and included.
- Demonstrates alignment with corporate strategies and initiatives while ensuring alignment throughout the yacht organisation.
- Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to position.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field, or minimum of five (5) years of management experience in Human Resources with a Human Resources professional designation, e.g. SHRM/HRCI.
- Three (3) to five (5) years progressive Human Resources management experience preferably in a hotel, hospitality or cruise industry and/or combination of Training and HR experience; luxury or ultra-luxury market segment strongly preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years in employee relations investigating, negotiating and resolving grievances and conflicts, preferably in a multi-cultural and diverse environment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressive training, facilitation and customer service experience.
- Must possess excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a clear understanding and administration of progressive discipline through coaching and counselling to improve performance or recommend termination of employment.
- Experience working in a diverse and multi-cultural environment required.
- Proficient in the use of computers, Internet access, and the ability to navigate with a variety software packages such as Excel, Word, or related programs.
- All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
