Role Description The Alternative Provision Youth Worker is a part-time, on-site role based in Chippenham. This role involves providing structured support to young people who are accessing alternative education provision, helping them to engage positively with learning and personal development. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering targeted activities, offering one-to-one and small group support, and helping young people develop social, emotional and life skills. The youth worker will work closely with schools, families and other professionals to monitor progress, manage individual support plans and ensure consistent safeguarding practices. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, contributing to reports, and participating in team meetings and local partnership work to enhance youth provision.
Qualifications
- Ability to build trusting, professional relationships with young people who may be disengaged or facing complex challenges, using empathy, active listening and consistent boundaries.
- Skills in planning and delivering engaging, structured activities and interventions that promote personal, social and emotional development.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with families, schools, partner agencies and colleagues in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Good organizational skills, including record-keeping, report writing, and managing time and priorities across caseloads and sessions.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding, child protection procedures, and relevant legislation and guidance relating to children and young people.
- Experience working with young people in youth work, education, social care or community settings; experience with alternative provision or additional needs is highly beneficial.
- Relevant qualification in youth work, social care, education or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience; willingness to undertake further training and professional development.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to promoting positive outcomes for children, young people and families in the local community.
