We are seeking an experienced and confident Phlebotomist to join our busy primary care team. The role involves delivering high-volume blood clinics and supporting basic clinical observations within a well‑established GP practice. Ideally, the successful candidate can work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The successful candidate will be competent, efficient, and able to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.

Main duties of the job:

  • Perform venepuncture for a wide range of patients, including those with difficult access
  • Run high‑volume phlebotomy clinics safely and efficiently
  • Carry out basic clinical observations (e.g. blood pressure, pulse)
  • Perform ECGs (or willingness to train if not already competent)
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and labelling of samples
  • Maintain infection control standards and clinical room cleanliness
  • Manage stock levels and equipment for clinics
  • Record activity accurately on the clinical system (EMIS)
  • Escalate any clinical concerns appropriately

We have a large & friendly team of doctors, allied healthcare professionals, nurses/HCAs, receptionists, administrators, managers and pharmacists. We are rated good in all CQC domains and outstanding for responsiveness. We have a friendly and supportive patient‑participating group and we offer the opportunity to do additional weekend and evening working at our Extended Access services.

  • Care Certificate

Experience:

  • Proven experience in phlebotomy (primary care, hospital, or similar setting)
  • Demonstrable competence in venepuncture, including patients with difficult access
  • Ability to manage high patient throughput efficiently
  • Good communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
  • Experience working in a GP practice
  • Experience in long‑term condition monitoring
  • ECG competency

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
