Theatre Practitioner
The Ridgeway Hospital in Swindon, part of Circle Health Group, is offering a Permanent, Fixed Term role at 37.5 hours per week with a salary up to ÂŁ37,000 per year (depending on experience, training and qualification).
Overview
Join our Theatres department as a full‑time Theatre Practitioner. The role holder will cover a flexible shift pattern and support the surgical team across a range of procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
- Support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning.
- Provide post‑operative care: monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea, and ensure patient readiness for discharge.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
- Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
- Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
- Support a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
- Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
- Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
- Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
