Are you a social care professional with experience in working with Complex Needs and looking for a new challenge? We're on the lookout for an experienced individual with a calm and positive nature to join our Todhill service in Stevenston as a Complex Needs Practitioner Level 2. This is a full time post consisting of 39hrs per week worked as 5 shifts over 7 days. Evening and weekend work is required.
The Role
At Todhill we support individuals with a variety of different needs such as ongoing Mental Health issues, Autism, Learning Disabilities and Dementia. This campus has recently undergone a multi-million pound development to provide 21 brand new homes for the people we support and these houses have been designed to respond to the needs and preferences of the people who will live in them as well as to fit in with the surrounding natural environment. With this development we feel that we have unlocked the full potential of Todhill's beautiful 105 acre rural site which includes a Day Centre Service offering a range of vocational and fun activities including horticulture, arts and crafts and animal husbandry.
You will be part of a committed team, supporting individuals with Autism and associated complex learning disabilities. All of the people supported need full support with all aspects of their life which includes either full support with personal care or prompting with personal care, support with cooking or prompting to cook meals, general household tasks, shopping and attending appointments. Some people have complex communication needs and we use different communication tools to meet the individuals' needs. Some of the individuals can get anxious and display challenging behaviour this always tends to be when the person is trying to communicate something.
As a Complex Needs Practitioner Level 2, you will support the Team Leader in delivering high-quality, person-centred care in line with each individual's Support Plan. You will provide direct support to individuals while also mentoring and guiding less experienced colleagues. In our service we may use CALM which are physical intervention and escape techniques to ensure the safety of supported individuals, colleagues, and members of the public. Techniques include but are not limited to; posture and distance when supporting, understanding triggers and escalations signs along with guiding individuals away to deescalate situations.
To be an amazing Complex Needs Practitioner, we'll need you to bring:
- Previous experience of working with a range of individuals with a Learning Disability / Autism Spectrum / Complex Needs.
- SVQ 3 in Care, or willingness to complete within a specified period of time.
- Ability to share knowledge and to coach and mentor colleagues.
- Knowledge of care plans.
- An empathetic and caring nature.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Confidence in using computers.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and on your own.
- Good organisational skills.
