About the Role
We are recruiting for a Setting Out Engineer to join an established specialist civil engineering contractor delivering ground engineering and foundation projects across the North East.
The company specialises in piling, ground improvement and foundation solutions, working on projects across the residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors.
This site-based role suits a Setting Out Engineer with experience in civil engineering, groundworks, or foundations who wants to develop their career with an established specialist contractor.
You will work alongside Site Managers and construction teams, ensuring engineering works are accurately set out and delivered in line with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out setting-out duties for piling, foundations, ground beams and associated civil engineering works.
- Use surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS and digital levels, to establish accurate site positions and levels.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction information.
- Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks and reference levels.
- Check the accuracy of completed works against design requirements.
- Liaise with Site Managers, Engineers and subcontractors to coordinate construction activities.
- Maintain accurate site records, surveys and as-built information.
- Identify and report technical discrepancies between drawings and site conditions.
- Support site teams in maintaining quality, health and safety standards.
Experience Required
- Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer within civil engineering, groundworks or construction.
- Experience using surveying equipment, particularly total stations and GPS.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of construction methods, site measurements and engineering tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on site.
- Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience setting out piling, foundations, reinforced concrete structures or ground improvement works would be advantageous.
- However, candidates with a strong setting-out background in general civil engineering or groundworks will also be considered.
