Working for a Tier 1 contractor, managing an £80m project based on the Shetland Islands for the next 3 years.

Your Location: UK wide (Near an airport for ease of travel into Aberdeen Airport)

Project Location: Shetland Islands (1 hour flight from Aberdeen)

Working pattern: 10 days on / 4 days off

Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 basic + £7,000 car allowance + 15% yearly bonus (£140,000 - £145,000 total package)

Subsistence: £24,000 per year

Monthly bonus: 90 hours of bonus overtime per month (built into your normal working day due to the 10 days on / 4 days off shift pattern)

All flights and all travel costs to the airport (Parking / Taxis) are covered, along with housing accommodation.

End of project bonus.

Role Description:

The Resolute Group have been retained by a Tier 1 Civil Engineering contractor to secure a Senior Quantity Surveyor for the next major project starting on the Shetland Islands. Operating in a small Commercial Team, your role is to be based on the project, working closely with the project team and reporting into the Commercial Manager for the £80m scheme. The contract is under NEC and my client is looking for someone who has been delivering projects under NEC3/4 within the Infrastructure sector. This is a great opportunity to join the project in the ECI phase before the work starts on site. Understanding the contract and identifying any early risks with the team and client to ensure the project is delivered smoothly.

Your duties will include:

  • Manage project budgets by creating monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) to track profit and loss.
  • Forecast future cash flow and predict final project expenses to prevent overspending.
  • Price and negotiate variations caused by unexpected civil engineering site conditions.
  • Administer the contract to ensure all legal obligations are met.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks by maintaining a detailed project risk register.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors by reviewing payment applications against completed site work.
  • Lead and mentor a commercial team of junior and assistant quantity surveyors.
  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to report on financial health and save costs.

This is the perfect opportunity to either progress into a Commercial Manager position in the next 3 years or move your skills from other sectors into the Energy and Power sector which has £12bn of projects to deliver over the next 6 years in Scotland.

If you are part of a £20m+ project, working under NEC form of contract, the ideal sector background can be: Highways, Rail, Water, Utilities, Power/Energy, Nuclear, Environmental/Flood/Coast defence.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction-based subject.
  • NEC contract experience.
  • Happy to lodge away for 10 days at a time (Full expensed).
