The Resolute Group are working in partnership with a Tier 1 contractor’s Power and Energy division to secure several Design Managers to work in Glasgow, supporting the £3 billion portfolio of projects across Scotland.
The Design Manager role is the technical interface between the design consultancy, Tier 1 / Main Contractor, and Scottish Power/SSEN. You will manage technical assurance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring designs meet the correct standards, specifications, and asset requirements, and are delivered correctly on site. You will be involved from the design stage through to construction, working closely with the project delivery teams to review buildability, manage design risks, and address any technical issues highlighted during delivery. Projects include Sub Stations, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) underground cables and Overhead line pylons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the technical interface between design consultants, the Tier 1 contractor and client, ensuring designs are compliant, coordinated, and buildable across the projects.
- Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, overseeing the design process from optioneering through detailed design and construction support.
- Ensure compliance with Scottish Power/SSE/SSEN standards, regulatory requirements, and CDM regulations, leading design risk and constructability reviews.
- Manage design change, technical queries, and interface with commercial and delivery teams to control programme and cost impacts.
- Implement and maintain robust quality assurance processes, reviewing and approving design deliverables to ensure high technical and safety standards.
You don’t need to be a full-time Design Manager to be considered for this position. Looking at an experienced Coordinator or Designer who wants to move into a Stakeholder focused position. Looking to step up and progress into Design Management.
Required Experience:
- Degree qualified, ideally in Civil engineering or related subject.
- Post-graduation experience of working in a Design coordinator position on heavy Civil Engineering projects, such as Highways, Rail, Water, Environmental, Flood defence etc.
- Or an experienced Design Engineer looking to move into a Design Manager position, managing stakeholders and site interactions.
