Design Manager – Rail
Excellent opportunity to work for a Tier 1 contractor’s Rail team supporting Network Rail projects.
Salary – £60,000 – £65,000 basic + Package
Locations – Peterborough or Bedford
Hybrid working – 3 days in the office / site, 2 days working from home.
Role:
The Resolute Group are working in partnership with a Tier 1 contractor’s Rail division, to identify and secure a Design Manager to work on the Eastern route. Working predominantly between Peterborough or Bedford .
The Design Manager role is the technical interface between the design consultancy, Tier 1 / Main contractor and Network Rail. Managing the technical assurance for the GRIP processes ensuring the designs meet Network Rail’s standards and are delivered correctly on site. Involved with taking the process from the design stage, working with the project delivery team, checking the buildability and addressing any highlighted issues.
All the projects are with Network Rail, working on Stations, Bridges, Platforms, Car parks etc.. not major projects but projects up to £20m in value. Looking at multiple projects across the region, each at different stages in the GRIP process and you need to be able to effectively manage your project pipeline.
Key skills you will need to be successful in this position:
Project engagement:
- Interface and coordinate between multi-disciplinary design teams, providing technical guidance and support.
- Oversee the coordination between the detailed design team and site-based stakeholders to ensure design compliance.
- Coordinate with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure project alignment and updated amendments if required.
Technical Expertise:
- Possess an understanding of Network Rail infrastructure design standards, codes, and regulations.
- Apply engineering principles to design challenges, such as Stations, Platforms, Embankments, Bridges and Tunnels,
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project impact.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety reviews to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Commercial Management:
- Managing the process with the commercial team, focused on changes to the design programme.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement robust quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of design deliverables.
- Review and approve design documentation to maintain high-quality standards.
You don’t need to be a full-time Design Manager to be considered for this position. Looking at an experienced Co-ordinator looking to step up or a Technical project manager looking to develop in design-oriented project management.
Required Experience
- Degree qualified, Ideal in Civil engineering or related subject.
- Post-graduation experience of working on Network Rail projects in a technical capacity.
