Project Director β Power Projects (Transmission & Distribution)
A Tier 1 contractor is seeking a Project Director to lead the delivery of major power infrastructure projects across Scotland, supporting long-term frameworks with key transmission clients.
Location: Glasgow / Central Belt, Scotland
Salary: Β£100,000 β Β£120,000 + Car / Allowance + Bonus + Package
Working pattern: Hybrid (3 days site / office, 2 days home)
The Opportunity
You will work on large-scale grid reinforcement and upgrade schemes forming part of the UKβs Net Zero strategy, delivering critical improvements to the transmission network.
Project Scope
Projects focus on high-voltage transmission infrastructure, typically including:
β’ 400kV / 275kV / 132kV substations (new build and upgrades)
β’ Overhead Line construction and refurbishment
β’ Underground cable installations and grid connections
β’ Integration of renewable energy into the transmission network
Typical schemes range from Β£100m to Β£1bn+, delivered through multi-year frameworks across Scotland.
Role Overview
As Project Director, you will act as the accountable lead for project delivery, responsible for:
β’ Full lifecycle delivery: ECI, design, construction and commissioning
β’ Commercial performance, programme management and risk
β’ Leading multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, commercial and operations
β’ Managing client and stakeholder relationships within regulated environments
Key Responsibilities
β’ Lead delivery of Β£100m+ power projects as No.1 on the scheme.
β’ Drive programme performance across design, procurement and construction.
β’ Manage interfaces across substations, OHL and cable packages.
β’ Oversee NEC contract delivery, including risk and cost control.
β’ Lead stakeholder engagement with clients, consultants and supply chain.
β’ Ensure compliance with CDM, HSEQ and transmission standards.
Required Experience
β’ Proven delivery of major infrastructure projects (Β£100m+).
β’ Experience in Power & Energy, Utilities, Rail, Highways, Aviation, or Environmental / Flood Defence.
β’ Experience within a Tier 1 contractor or major project environment.
β’ Strong working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts.
β’ Demonstrable leadership of large, multi-disciplinary teams.
Highly Desirable
β’ Experience in Transmission & Distribution.
β’ Exposure to OHL, substations or high-voltage infrastructure.
