Our client is a leading UK manufacturer in Rochdale recruiting for a Junior Buyer to join their established team, reporting to the Head of Supply Chain and Planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing materials, managing suppliers and stock levels, and maintaining accurate data to support production.
Key Responsibilities:- Measure quality of procured items and manage vendor quality issues to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Report any pricing or lead time issues to provide early warning of any adverse market conditions.
- Assist in identifying and reporting risks associated in Supply Chain.
- Research and evaluate prospective vendors and negotiate prices, payment terms, lead times and contracts.
- Identify outsourcing opportunities.
- Make/buy information/comparisons.
- Periodic lead time reviews of major vendors.
- Ensure recorded documentation for key vendors is updated and maintained - ISO certificates, Supplier questionnaires etc.
- Maintain prices and lead times within SAP.
- Review and process purchase orders, maintain records of goods ordered and expedite where necessary.
- Raising Non-stock PO lines.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors.
- Visit vendor premises when necessary.
- Provide support/assistance to Engineering/Design on NPD and cost down initiatives.
- Provide support/assistance to Production for outsourcing opportunities.
- Provide feedback to Finance on any invoice queries.
- Undertake necessary tasks determined by M3 team prior to implementation of new ERP system.
- Experience in purchasing or supply chain within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
- CIPS qualified ideally but will consider putting through qualification for the right candidate.
- Excellent communication skills - Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy – able to work flexibly and under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with MRP/ERP systems.
- Commercial awareness with focus on cost reduction and total cost of ownership.
- Understanding of supply chain planning, lead times, and stock optimisation.
The company is an established manufacturing company in Rochdale offering a competitive salary up to £30,000 depending upon experience. Hours of work are 39 hours per week.
