We are working with a well-respected engineering company in Atherton who manufacture medium to heavy engineered components. Due to continued growth and an expanding order book, they are recruiting for a Tooling Technician.
The Job
- Support the setup and maintenance of cutting tools for large CNC milling operations.
- Assemble and maintain cutting tools/tool holders for CNC milling machines handling large-scale components.
- Interpret engineering drawings and setup instructions to prepare tooling for precision machining of steel, castings and forgings.
- Inspect and measure tooling dimensions using tool pre setter, micrometres, calipers, and other high-precision instruments.
- Manage tool inventory, including regrinds and replacements.
- Support machinists in minimising downtime during setup/changeover and resolve tooling-related issues efficiently.
- Handle and rebuild large, multi-insert tooling, face mills, boring heads, and custom tool bodies safely and accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness, organisation and safety within the tool setting area.
About you
- A good knowledge of the various types of machine tooling used such as Drilling Tools, Milling Tools, Boring Tools etc.
- Competency in using manual and digital measuring instruments.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience setting tools for machining components weighing several tons.
- Previous training in CNC machining or mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of heavy-duty CNC machine centres (horizontal/vertical mills, gantry machines, etc.).
- Experience with tool holding systems such as Varilock.
