The predicted salary is between 32000 - 48000 £ per year.

£40,100 (min 10 hours paid whilst working away). Established and well-respected company with an excellent working environment and a credible record of long-term staff members. Standard hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm.

Our client, based in Tameside, has a reputation for innovation and consistently leads in their chosen industry sector. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Commissioning Engineer to work on projects ranging from 433v through to 33kV.

The role will involve commissioning testing of switchgear, protection relays, CTs, VTs, and cabling up to 33kV alongside all testing required for the adoption of switchgear and cabling by any host DNO/client. The candidate will be required to maintain, install, and modify switchgear and be able to read wiring diagrams. They must have some experience in working in electrical substations.

As the commissioning engineer, you would be expected to lead the job, be the customer's first point of contact, and provide technical assistance.

Key duties include:

  • Carrying out the following testing:
  • Insulation resistance cables
  • D.C. pressure and VLF testing cables
  • Insulation resistance testing of switchgear and transformers
  • A.C. flash testing of switchgear up to and over 3.3kV
  • A.C. flash testing of transformers
  • Ductor testing of switchgear and busbars
  • Understanding wiring and schematic diagrams
  • Commissioning of:
    • Primary injection testing CTs and VTs
    • ACBs, VCBs, OCBs & GCBs
    • Magnetisation curve testing
    • G59 testing
    • Scheme testing and fault finding
    • Battery discharge testing
    • Over current and earth fault relay testing
    • Primary injection testing
    • Differential protection
    • Unit protection, Transformer protection, Distance protection, Motor protection

    To be considered for this position, the successful candidate must have:

    • Electrical engineering experience
    • Emergency First Aid Training
    • ECS-CSCS
    • CCNSG Contractors safety passport
    • Familiarity working within a HV Substation in a live environment
    • Self-motivated with total commitment to deadlines
    • Excellent organisational and communication skills and proven attention to detail
    • Full UK driving licence
