Job Description
We are recruiting an Assistant HR Business Partner to cover a maternity leave period for up to 14 months.
You will work alongside another Assistant HR Business Partner, supported by an HR Administrator, and will support up to 1,000 colleagues in a full HR generalist role.
Your employee relations casework will cover performance management, grievances, sickness and other matters, while complex formal case work is handled by a separate employee advisory team.
In this role you will work closely with managers and heads of departments to provide expert advice and guidance, build strong working relationships, and ensure a best‑in‑class HR service.
This position requires up-to-date HR and employment law knowledge and the ability to coach managers on HR policies and procedures, assess business risks, and continually improve performance through policy review and improvement.
The company operates a hybrid working pattern with three days in the office and two days at home per week.
The working week is 37.5 hours, with flexible core hours of 10 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate advice and guidance to line managers on employee lifecycle topics such as performance, sickness, occupational health, conduct, discipline, grievance, secondments, TUPE, probation and AWOL.
- Partner with line managers, exercising professional judgment to balance employment legislation, policy, best practice and organisational risk.
- Support the management, delivery and monitoring of small HR projects and people initiatives, representing HR on cross‑functional projects where appropriate.
- Conduct employee consultations relating to TUPE, organisational change and onboarding.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners, the Employee Relations team and other HR colleagues to deliver a joined‑up HR service and take ownership of complex cases to resolution.
- Drive continuous improvement by analysing HR data, identifying trends and implementing process improvements.
- Develop excellent stakeholder relationships and provide commercially focused HR solutions.
- Coach and develop managers, identifying skill gaps and improving capability.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex HR queries and mentor HR colleagues.
- Maintain accurate HR records in line with GDPR.
- Champion equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Support the development of HR colleagues through coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Where required, deputise for the HR Business Partner.
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven and significant background in HR, ideally as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner.
- Understanding of best practice in HR procedures.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of employment law.
- Level 5 or equivalent CIPD qualification.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills at all stakeholder levels.
