We are working on behalf of an esteemed organisation who are recruiting an Assistant HR Business Partner to join their HR team to cover a maternity leave period for up to 14 months. You will work alongside another Assistant HR Business Partner, with support from a HR Administrator to support up to 1000 colleagues in a full HR generalist role. There is a separate employee advisory team that will handle complex formal case work, with your employee relations casework covering performance management, grievances, sickness etc.

In this role you will work closely with Managers and Head of Departments, in order to provide expert advice and guidance and build strong working relationships. This position requires up to date HR and employment law knowledge, with the ability to effectively advise and coach managers regarding HR policies and procedures in order to assess business risks. Working collaboratively across the business HR functions to ensure a best in class service is provided to all and continually strive to improve performance through continuous policy review and improvements.

The company are operating a hybrid working pattern with 3 days office based and 2 days home based weekly. This is a full time working week of 37.5 hours, which can be worked flexibly around core hours of 10am – 3pm Monday to Friday. This is a maternity contract, with the employee starting their maternity leave at the end of September so this is likely to last up to 14 months.

Role and responsibilities:

  • As an Assistant HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for providing accurate advice and guidance to line managers relating to employee lifecycle topics for example performance, sickness, occupational health, conduct, discipline, grievance, secondments, TUPE, probation and AWOL.
  • Provide timely expert advice and guidance to line managers across the full employee lifecycle, exercising professional judgement to balance employment legislation, policy, best practice and organisational risk.
  • Support with the management, delivery and monitoring of small HR projects and people initiatives, representing HR on cross-functional projects where appropriate.
  • Undertake employee consultation relating to TUPE and organisational change as well as onboarding as part of the process.
  • Work collaboratively with HR Business Partners, Employee Relations team and other HR colleagues to deliver a joined-up HR service and ensure ownership of complex cases through to resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analysing HR data, identifying trends and implementing process improvements.
  • Develop excellent stakeholder relationships and provide commercially focused HR solutions.
  • Coach and develop managers, identifying skills gaps and improving capability.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex HR queries and mentor HR colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate HR records in line with GDPR.
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Support the development of HR colleagues through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • When required responsible for deputising for the HR Business Partner.

Skills and experience required:

  • Proven and significant background in HR ideally in a HR Generalist or HR Business Partner is essential.
  • Understanding of best practice in HR procedures.
  • Up to date knowledge of employment law.
  • CIPD level 5 or equivalent essential.
  • Confident communicator and relationship builder at all stakeholder levels.
