We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Manager to join a growing Solar PV business delivering projects across the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the commercial performance of Solar PV projects, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, contractually compliant and in line with agreed budgets and programmes. This role would suit an experienced commercial professional who has a strong understanding of the Solar PV, renewable energy or construction sector and is confident managing contracts, budgets, variations, procurement and commercial relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take commercial ownership of Solar PV projects from contract award through to completion.
  • Manage project budgets, costs, margins, forecasts and cash flow.
  • Review and manage client and subcontractor contracts.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Manage variations, change control, claims and additional works.
  • Prepare and review valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed budgets and financial targets.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement and Senior Management.
  • Manage commercial relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and resolve contractual issues.
  • Review subcontractor quotations and payment applications.
  • Support procurement and ensure best commercial value is achieved.
  • Produce regular commercial reports, forecasts and financial updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project margins and profitability.
  • Ensure contractual obligations and commercial procedures are followed.
  • Support tendering, estimating and pre-construction activities where required.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records throughout the project lifecycle.

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Surveyor or Contracts Manager with experience within Solar PV, renewable energy or a closely related construction/engineering environment. You will be commercially focused, analytical and confident dealing with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a commercial management role.
  • Experience within Solar PV, renewable energy, construction or electrical engineering.
  • Strong understanding of project costs, budgets and profitability.
  • Experience managing contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Experience handling variations, valuations and final accounts.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent financial and analytical ability.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Confident communicating with clients, subcontractors and senior management.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within commercial rooftop Solar PV.
  • Experience managing Solar PV projects from 500kW through to 2MW+.
  • Knowledge of EPC contracts.
  • Experience with NEC, JCT or other construction contracts.
  • Understanding of DNO/grid connection processes.
  • Experience within BESS or wider renewable energy projects.
  • Quantity Surveying or commercially focused construction qualification.
  • Relevant degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Engineering or a related discipline.
