We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Commercial Solar Surveyor to support the delivery of commercial and industrial solar PV projects. The role involves carrying out technical site surveys, assessing roof and ground-mounted solar opportunities, and providing accurate data to support system design, pricing, and project delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with sales, design, and installation teams to ensure projects are technically viable, compliant, and delivered efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site surveys for commercial and industrial solar PV installations
- Assess roof structures (flat, pitched, metal, asbestos awareness), ground conditions, and electrical infrastructure
- Measure and record roof dimensions, orientations, shading, and access constraints
- Evaluate existing electrical systems, including supply capacity and connection points
- Identify Health & Safety risks and site-specific hazards
- Capture accurate photos, drawings, and survey data
- Produce clear and detailed survey reports for design and engineering teams
- Liaise with clients, landlords, and site managers during surveys
- Support DNO application data gathering where required
- Ensure surveys comply with relevant standards, regulations, and company procedures
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience surveying commercial solar PV projects
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems and components
- Ability to interpret structural and electrical site conditions
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
- Confident using survey tools, tablets, and reporting software
- Full UK driving licence
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
Desirable:
- Knowledge of UK building regulations and structural considerations
- Experience with DNO processes and grid connection requirements
- Understanding of MCS standards and commercial compliance
- Experience working with design software (e.g. AutoCAD, PV*Sol, OpenSolar)
- CSCS card (or willingness to obtain)
Qualifications
- Electrical, engineering, construction, or renewable energy background (preferred)
- Health & Safety training (e.g. IOSH, SSSTS desirable)
- Working at Height awareness (desirable)
