Our client is seeking a Scientific Officer to join their team in Belfast, specializing in marine conservation advice (Marine Conservation Advice Casework Officer).
Rate of Pay: £16.45 per hour, Weekly Pay
Start Date: ASAP
Location: The position offers some remote working options, with the permanent office located at Clare House, 303 Airport Road West, Belfast, BT3 9ED.
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours between 8am and 6pm, including core hours of 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm.
Duration: 6 months
The role involves providing marine and coastal nature conservation advice, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation such as the Marine Act (Northern Ireland) 2013, the Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc.) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995, and the Environment (Northern Ireland) Order 2002. Responsibilities include:
- Responding to planning consultations, assessing impacts on marine conservation interests, and liaising with relevant stakeholders.
- Providing advice on Marine Licence applications, including EIA scoping and Habitats Regulations Assessments.
- Supporting conservation designations and protection measures for marine species and habitats.
- Commenting on policies and plans from various government departments.
- Ensuring protection of marine protected species and assisting in marine wildlife licensing processes.
- Participating in marine wildlife surveys and managing related records.
- Performing administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
A degree or higher qualification in Zoology, Biology, Ecology, or related Marine/Environmental Science field, plus at least 2 years of relevant experience within the last 8 years, including:
- Producing or reviewing ecological assessments/reports
- Conducting ecological surveys of marine habitats and wildlife
- Conservation management activities
Relevant scientific discipline details and modules studied should be provided for qualification relevance. Post-degree experience can include postgraduate or postdoctoral work.
Access NI clearance is required for this role.
