We are seeking a Band 2 Catering Assistant to join a busy hospital catering team in Newry. The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of safe, nutritious meals to patients and staff. This position is ideal for someone reliable, flexible, and comfortable working within a healthcare environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Preparing and serving hot and cold food and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors
- Ensuring special dietary requirements and allergen guidelines are followed accurately
- Assisting with the setup and clearing of ward meal trolleys
- Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment to required hygiene standards
- Cleaning food preparation areas, dining areas, and maintaining general kitchen hygiene
- Receiving, checking, and storing food deliveries safely
- Recording temperatures of food, fridges, and equipment in line with HACCP guidelines
- Handling waste appropriately and maintaining a clean environment
- Restocking supplies and ensuring kitchens are well-organised
- Working effectively as part of a busy catering team
- Following all infection control, health & safety, and food hygiene regulations
Requirements:
- Ability to work both shift patterns as part of a rotating rota
- Previous catering or cleaning experience (hospital experience desirable but not essential)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Reliability and excellent attention to detail
- Must be available for an immediate start
