All Sport NI employees are currently working in a hybrid pattern. Part of the week will be office based and part of the week will be from home. This will be reviewed on a regular basis.
Sport NI is the lead development public body for sport and physical recreation in Northern Ireland. We are established under the Recreation and Youth Service Order 1986 for the furtherance of sport and physical recreation in Northern Ireland. Sport NI is the main statutory body, through which public funding for sports in Northern Ireland is channelled. Sport NI is primarily funded by grant in aid from the Department for Communities and the National Lottery. Our mission statement is: We are passionate about maximising the power of sport to change lives. By 2025, we want the power of sport to be recognised and valued by all.
Job Duties:
The Sport Support Officer plays a key role in providing effective administration of resources to enable the smooth running of projects and programmes, supporting the Deputy Principal and/or the Staff Officer (who leads delivery within their functional area of responsibility) to contribute to the achievement of Sport NI’s strategic objectives. The role will engage with Sport NI colleagues, sports organisations and partner organisations monitoring performance against agreed strategic targets.
The Sport Support Officers’ exact responsibilities will vary according to their functional areas/teams, which include:
- The Sport Development Team is responsible for developing Sport NI’s coordinated approach to organisational engagement across partner organisations. Actively seeking out trends and innovation that have the potential to widen participation in sport and physical recreation with a particular focus on increased opportunities and participation among under-represented groups.
- The Sports, Culture & Integrity Team works with sports’ governing bodies to achieve positive outcomes associated with organisations adopting behaviours that reflect the principles underpinning the chosen governance code.
- The Infrastructure Team is responsible for working collaboratively with partners, advocating for facility investment and utilising funding to deliver spaces that enable sport and physical activity. Research and insights are used to support development of spaces that create a varied and broader activity offering, engaging people to participate in physical activity across all abilities.
- The People Development Team is responsible for developing a coordinated approach to People Development across all levels of sport, including coaching, officiating, sports administrators, and sports development practitioners. A key piece of their engagement is through the Sport NI Digital Hub which offers multi-faceted learning for these populations.
- The Performance Programmes Team is responsible for developing Performance Sport programmes for Governing Bodies to deliver athletes that can achieve on an international stage. This is primarily through building understanding and alignment with Governing Body’s for Investment programmes, Athlete Awards, as well as managing service level agreements for Sport Northern Ireland Sports Institute support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, review and maintain administration systems and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate records and reports for projects in support of management.
- Keep up to date with a broad set of issues relating to the work of the team.
- Adhere to relevant governance including policies, procedures, regulations and legislation specific to the work of Sport NI.
- Liaise with key stakeholders to progress the work of the team.
- Data Analysis and reporting, project support, records management, and administrative support (such as meeting preparation, agendas and minutes).
- Support the implementation and monitoring of projects including using data (including costs, dependencies, outputs, risks, and timescales).
- Support the delivery of Professional Advisory Services.
- Where required, to effectively analyse data and other information in order to produce effective reports and written answers to queries in support of the work of the business area.
- Preparing financial reports and accurate and timely Management information for the functional area.
- Assist with the measurement, monitoring and reporting of progress against the targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the Business Area.
- Development of appropriate acquisition, storage, retrieval and disposal procedures within the context of Electronic Records Management Strategy, including the maintenance and regulation of these procedures.
Corporate Responsibilities:
- Assist in the effective management of resources, ensuring work completed aligns to Business and Corporate Plan objectives and is of a high quality and delivered on time.
- To carry out any other duties that, from time to time, may reasonably be undertaken in the pursuit of the post’s overall objectives, undertaking duties of the post with regard to Sport NI’s DNA (Values).
Essential Criteria:
- 5 GCSE passes grades A – C, which includes English Language and Maths or equivalent qualifications.
- 2 A-Level passes grades A – E, or equivalent qualifications.
- 2 years’ full time (or equivalent part time) employment experience within the last 7 years in an environment with responsibility for administration systems including file management and working to organisation policies and procedures.
- 2 years’ full-time (or equivalent part time) experience within the last 7 years of gathering, analysing and communicating information effectively to a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrable employment experience in drafting and dealing with correspondence and enquiries from the public and/or partner organisations.
- Competent keyboard skills and experience in the use of Microsoft software in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Access to a form of transport, which is insured for use, when travelling on SNI business.
- Ability to work additional hours from time to time some of which may be at the weekend or at short notice.
Desired Experience:
- Demonstrable experience of working within a sporting environment e.g.- club, governing body, local authority etc.
- Minimum 1 years’ full-time experience in the administration of grants.
- Understanding of issues and standards of accountability within the public sector.
- Experience of application of project management methodologies.
