Blue Arrow is currently recruiting for an Assistant Team Leader to join our client\’s small and friendly team, a food distributor based in Gorseinon.

Contract: Permanent

Salary: Β£28,600 per annum (overtime rates paid over 40hrs)

Hours of work: Full time, 40 hours per week. Mon-Thurs 3pm-10:30pm, Sunday 10.30am job and finish.

Summary
An experienced Warehouse Operative who steps up to lead the picking team during the absence of the Picking Team Leader. This role ensures continuity of operations by maintaining productivity, order accuracy, and team coordination during cover periods.

Role Responsibilities:
When acting as Assistant Team Leader:

  • Lead and motivate the picking team to meet daily targets and deadlines.
  • Plan and organise pick workflows for maximum efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure all picking tasks are completed in line with operational and safety standards.
  • Conduct basic quality checks to ensure order accuracy and pallet integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure pick notes and delivery paperwork are correctly completed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments (e.g., goods-in, dispatch).
  • Report stock shortages, damages, and discrepancies.
  • Always uphold health & safety and food safety standards.
  • Deputize for the Warehouse Supervisor when instructed.

Standard daily duties

  • Manage and action pick notes.
  • Pick and build orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Stage, shrink-wrap, and label pallets for dispatch.
  • Operate scanning equipment to track stock and order movement.
  • Ensure clean and safe working conditions following \’clean as you go\’ principles.
  • Load vehicles and assist with packing where needed.
  • Support team efforts in meeting warehouse KPIs and maintaining high operational standards.

Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Good understanding of warehouse procedures and product handling.
  • Ability to lead and communicate clearly with colleagues.
  • Reliable, proactive, and organised.
  • Good attention to detail and time management.
  • Understanding of health & safety and food safety in a warehouse environment.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Experience as a warehouse operative, ideally within picking operations who wants to make the next step into leadership.
  • Proven reliability and strong work ethic.
  • Previous leadership or acting-up experience (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment (e.g., pump trucks, scanners)
