We are currently recruiting for a Ranger for our client based in Narrow Water Castle. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI are completed.
Start date: ASAP
Rate of pay: £12.92
Duration: Mid September
Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week
5/7 working pattern determined by rota. Summer hours 0900 – 1700.
(Rota for days and times will vary for each location and business needs – to be confirmed with line manager)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the site management in the presentation, maintenance, and conservation of State Care Monuments.
- Assist in managing visitor access to State Care Monuments.
- Support the facilitation of events and activities at State Care Monuments.
- Deliver visitor services at State Care Monuments.
- Support the Premises Officer in managing assigned buildings.
- Assist in monitoring the delivery of projects.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Site Presentation:
- Outdoor maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and fencing.
- Cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings.
- Ensuring site furniture and signage are well presented (installation, inspection, and routine maintenance).
- Maintain the upkeep of departmental vehicles, plant, and machinery.
- Litter and dog foul collection, bin emptying.
- Conduct visitor surveys and complete questionnaires.
- Animal and plant control.
- Operate specialist equipment/machinery (training provided).
- Operate a range of tools and equipment, including hand tools, minor plant, machinery, and vehicles following training.
- Drive departmental vehicles.
- Collect and maintain data from visitor number counters.
2. Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
- Follow lone working policies and procedures.
- Carry out site inspections and respond to issues identified in audits.
- Assist with risk assessments and fire drills.
- Record accidents and near misses accurately and promptly.
- Be aware of emergency response procedures.
3. Other Duties:
- Provide cover for designated sites, including occasional evening and weekend work.
- Open, close, and check the security of sites and car parks.
- Patrol sites, enforce byelaws, and promote responsible public behavior.
- Operate audio-visual, IT, and camera equipment.
- Use NI Civil Service IT systems.
- Record site information such as complaints, visitor numbers, and patrol reports.
- Build and maintain relationships with landowners, councils, community groups, and the public.
- Provide high-quality customer service.
- Complete timesheets, vehicle logs, and other reports as required.

A full Category B driving licence, valid for Northern Ireland, is required to carry out all duties of the post.
