They are offering a clear, accelerated pathway to Associate, Directorship, and potentially, part-ownership, as part of a strategic succession plan. If you’re a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, ready to leverage your technical expertise and business acumen to manage and grow a thriving firm while shaping your own future, then this is the role for you.

My client is an innovative and highly regarded structural engineering practice, located in Central London and established over 20 years ago. They are known for developing elegant and efficient structural designs that seamlessly integrate with architectural concepts for both new-build and renovation projects. While proudly rooted in the UK, their expertise extends globally. They have a proven track record of successful project delivery, serving a diverse portfolio of international and domestic clients. Their work spans a wide range of industry sectors. Join them, and you will have the opportunity to tackle exciting challenges, from iconic UK landmarks to significant international developments.

This isn’t just a typical engineering role; it’s a strategic recruitment offering clear and accelerated progression. My client is seeking a highly skilled and ambitious Associate Engineer or a Senior Structural Engineer and offering a genuine pathway to Associate, then Directorship, and potentially, a Shareholder/Partner position. This role is a key part of the business’s succession plan, designed for you to progressively take over day-to-day management responsibilities currently performed by the existing leadership.

This is more than just a job opening; it’s a strategic career move for a Senior Structural Engineer ready to make a significant impact and own their destiny. This role is ideal if you are:

  • Currently in a large corporate environment, feeling stifled by limited progression pathways, and yearning for a clearer route to leadership and ownership.
  • Someone who desires more than just project-level work, eager to transition into managing and actively growing a thriving engineering business.
  • Poised to take the next crucial step into senior management, seeking a role where your entrepreneurial mindset will be genuinely valued and cultivated.
  • Driven by the ambition to shape the future direction of a company and ultimately become a part-owner, investing your expertise where it truly makes a difference.

If you’re seeking a challenging yet incredibly rewarding role, where your contributions directly influence the firm’s trajectory and your own career path, we want to hear from you.

You are a confident, proactive self-starter who thrives on autonomy and doesn’t require constant management or hand-holding. You will take ownership of the projects and drive them forward:

  • Be a confident and solution-oriented presence in front of clients, fostering strong relationships.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive project ownership and management from conception to completion.
  • Be a true team player with strong mentoring skills, actively supporting and guiding team members. Your office-based presence in Central London is essential to foster this collaborative environment and facilitate effective mentoring.
  • Possess a deep commitment to understanding and meeting client needs.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • A degree in Structural Engineering and an IEng or CEng qualification.

We’re looking for a Senior Structural Engineer with:

  • Comprehensive technical knowledge: Proficient in relevant UK standards, Eurocodes, design guidance documentation, and Building Regulations.
  • Proven design abilities: Skilled in coordinating detailed designs and specifications, using both first principles hand calculations and software like AutoCAD, Revit, Staad, Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer, or similar. You’ll demonstrate strong competency in conceptual and detailed structural engineering project design.
  • Innovative mindset: You’ll bring a flair for elegant solutions, exceptional critical thinking, and a drive for innovative approaches to structural challenges.
  • Exceptional communication: Ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively across teams, with clients and external consultants.
  • Project management understanding: A solid grasp of project programmes, budget management and constraints.

If this opportunity excites you and you believe you have the right skills, experience, and entrepreneurial drive, we would love to hear from you. In the first instance, please submit your CV and a covering letter outlining why you believe you are a suitable candidate and your remuneration expectations to Jeremy Barwick, our retained recruiter.
