About the Role

Are you a passionate cook who loves creating wholesome meals? The Recruitment Bar is delighted to be partnering with a charming, independent nursery in Kettering to help them find a friendly, flexible, and dedicated Cook to take total ownership of their lovely nursery kitchen.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who thrives on using their own initiative, manages their time beautifully, and wants to be part of a close-knit team making a daily difference to little ones. With perfect lunchtime hours, it offers a brilliant work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

As the heart of the kitchen, the successful candidate will have independent responsibility during their hours of work to ensure the children are well-fed and safe. Your recipe for success will include:

  • Menu Planning & Prep: Planning, preparing, and serving delicious, nutritious meals in line with the nursery menus and food policies, ensuring everything is ready perfectly on time.

  • Catering for Everyone: Working closely with parental guidance to ensure all individual dietary requirements and allergies are safely looked after.

  • Kitchen Pride: Keeping the kitchen, appliances, and equipment beautifully clean and sparkling (including walls, floors, and food trays) following a daily cleaning schedule. Managing the daily washing up of all crockery, cutlery, and utensils in line with food safety guidelines.

  • Safety & Compliance: Running the kitchen in full compliance with legislative and registration requirements. This includes taking and recording daily food, fridge, and freezer temperatures in the kitchen file, and managing waste disposal effectively.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Giving daily feedback to the Nursery Director, liaising on kitchen equipment orders, and working together to maintain a positive, non-discriminatory, and inclusive environment. Monitoring any safeguarding issues following local authority procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

To keep the kitchen running smoothly, the ideal candidate will bring:

  • Previous experience in cooking and confidently managing a kitchen space.

  • A valid Level 2 Food & Hygiene Certificate.

  • Economic awareness, with the ability to use kitchen equipment efficiently and reduce waste of materials and energy.

  • High professional standards, including wearing a clean uniform, headwear, and suitable kitchen footwear daily.

  • A friendly, team-player attitude with great individual accountability.

Please Note: Because the safety of the children is the absolute priority, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check in accordance with the nursery Safeguarding policy.
