Our client is seeking an experienced VAT Consultant to join their advisory team. This is a pure advisory role with no compliance responsibilities. The position will focus primarily on advising Owner-Managed Businesses (OMBs) and mid-market corporate clients, with occasional exposure to larger corporate matters at a strategic, high-level. The role would particularly suit someone with a mixed tax background and a corporate bias, rather than a pure large-corporate tax specialist. Candidates with specialist experience in share schemes or valuations, or those with a broad, high-level tax advisory background across multiple taxes, will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide VAT and wider tax advisory support to OMBs and corporate clients
- Deliver pragmatic, commercially focused advice on complex transactions and restructuring projects
- Work collaboratively with other tax specialists to provide integrated advisory solutions
- Support clients through transactions, planning exercises, and clearance processes
- Contribute to the development of client relationships and new advisory opportunities
Technical Experience Sought
On the corporate side, candidates should have advisory experience in as many of the following areas as possible:
- Group reorganisations, including: Demergers, Hive-ups and hive-downs, Management Buyouts (MBOs)
- UK aspects of international tax, including: Corporate tax residency, Corporate Interest Restriction, High-level exposure to Transfer Pricing, CFCs and BEPS, Loan relationships and the intangible assets regime, Substantial Shareholding Exemption (SSE), Business Asset Disposal Relief (BADR), Corporation tax losses, associated companies, and Qualifying IP (QIPs), Company purchase of own shares, Tax clearances
- Share schemes (e.g. EMI)
- Experience preparing share valuations (desirable but not essential)

- Strong advisory background with exposure to OMBs and corporate clients
- Experience in VAT and/or wider tax advisory, with the ability to operate at a high, strategic level
- Commercial, solutions-focused mindset with strong client communication skills
- Comfortable working without compliance responsibilities
