Role Summary
The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-level legal advice, assistance, and representation, with a focus on housing and civil litigation. This role involves supporting the Service Director and Senior Management Team, managing a personal caseload of complex matters, and supervising junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional legal advice and assistance to services and council members, focusing on housing and civil litigation.
- Manage, supervise, train, and mentor members of the legal team.
- Identify and advise on new statute, case law, and procedural developments relevant to the role.
- Conduct a personal caseload of contentious and non-contentious matters, including complex and high-value cases.
- Advise on reports and policy documents.
- Undertake advocacy in Courts and Tribunals as appropriate.
- Arrange effective representation by instructing external counsel or other legal professionals.
- Effectively commission and oversee legal work from external lawyers.
- Assist in creating information reports and data insights to support service management.
