Line Cook at The Read House Hotel
The Read House Food and Beverage Department is seeking an experienced Line Cook to join its dynamic culinary team. This role is based in Chattanoogaâs awardâwinning historic hotel, which has been welcoming guests since 1872.

Salary: $16.00+ per hour, based upon experience

Who We Are Looking For
As a Line Cook at The Read House, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently cooking meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products, as well as preparing and portioning foods prior to cooking. You will also handle plating, garnishing, and ensuring the final presentation meets our high standards.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up the cooking station according to restaurant guidelines, ready for service at the required time
- Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
- Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant
- Restock all items as needed throughout the shift
- Clean and maintain stations while practicing exceptional safety, sanitation, and organizational skills
- Maintain an understanding and knowledge of proper use and maintenance of all equipment in the station
- Assist with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, walkâin coolers, and all storage areas
- Abide by all company and state guidelines regarding food handling safety and sanitation
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Cuisine
- Maintain regular and punctual onâsite attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when business requires
Job Requirements
Education / Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Preferred previous work experience in similarâstyle restaurant establishments
- Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
- Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
- ServSafe certification preferred

- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, sometimes more than 8 hours
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a highâdemand, fastâpaced environment with changing variables
- Ability to apply patience and understanding to all persons and situations
- Ability to perform well under pressure to meet the needs of guests, team members and/or management
Work Environment
- This position requires the ability to work in temperatures of varying degrees
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
