We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and dynamic Buyer with experience in seasonable/perishable goods to join our fast-paced and passionate buying team at one of the UK's fastest growing privately owned companies. With over 280 stores nationwide, the right candidate will lead our plant ranges in our retail channel, playing a pivotal role in shaping seasonal ranges, driving commercial performance and delivering great value for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Develop the seasonal plant category, aligning to business objectives in driving sales, managing stock holding and upholding margin.
- Manage supplier relationships across the UK and Europe through regular communication and site visits, negotiating strongly to ensure value for money is balanced with high product quality.
- Plan and manage delivery schedules through the season, compliant with plant import regulations and domestic requirements, securing sufficient stock volumes whilst carefully managing and minimising category wastage.
- React to seasonal demands, identify risks, and find solutions to maintain availability and sales throughout the year.
- Monitor market trends, customer requirements, competitor activity and product innovation, regularly analyse sales and suggest ways the range could be improved.
- Create promotional plans across the yearly calendar and develop these with our Social and Marketing teams.
- Support the Gardens Buyer with ongoing projects linking Plant category into the wider Gardens department.
Person Specification
- Proven retail buying experience with experience of seasonal/perishable goods.
- Strong negotiation and commercial skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to recognise new trends, analyse data and forecast demand for seasonal peaks.
- Excellent organisation and communication skills with a commercial eye.
- Positive attitude, ability to thrive in a fast paced business and work under pressure.
- Strong IT and Data Management Skills, including use of Microsoft Office software.
- Comfortable working both individually and with a team.
- Must be able and willing to travel across the UK and Europe for trade shows and supplier/store visits.
