Overall purpose of job
To ensure the school premises are clean, secure, safe and well maintained.
Responsibilities
- Locking and unlocking the buildings as required.
- Assisting users with setting up facilities such as chairs and tables.
- Managing pre‑planned maintenance, daily establishment requirements and problem resolution.
- Undertaking minor repairs to fixtures and fittings.
- Ensuring plant and equipment is maintained to the required standard.
- Grounds maintenance.
- Assisting with the organisation of school refurbishments.
- Porterage around the school site.
- Monitoring the premises for hazards, carrying out repairs or reporting problems as necessary.
- Ensuring all stakeholders adhere to the school's Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties: holiday cover, overtime work in agreement with the School Office Manager, emergency call‑outs, general cleaning, animal care during school holidays, supervision of contractors, painting and decorating, general maintenance and repairs, health and safety checks, sweeping/salting and maintaining clear footpaths and car parks, litter collection, and other tasks as required.
The role requires significant periods of lone work and demands a high degree of responsibility, professionalism, and initiative.
Health and Safety
Take reasonable care of own and others' health and safety; cooperate on all health and safety issues; use appropriate equipment as trained; carry out risk assessments; maintain records; ensure equipment is maintained; report concerns to the Headteacher or School Office Manager promptly; and complete tasks safely.
Safeguarding
All staff must ensure the school's safeguarding policies are followed, raise concerns in line with policy, attend suitable training, and support safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities within the school.
Holidays and Flexibility
Holidays should be taken in agreement with the Headteacher and School Office Manager.
Postholders are expected to be flexible and may be asked to perform duties commensurate with the post's responsibilities.
